What a week! How has everyone been? I hope you have all been enjoying my picks of the week so far.

The Tate Modern currently has a great exhibition by Gabriel Orozco on at the moment. It started January 19th and will continue until April 25th so there will be plenty of time to go and see it.

“Creative, playful and inventive, Gabriel Orozco creates art in the streets, his apartment or wherever he is inspired. Born in Mexico but working across the globe, Orozco is renowned for his endless experimentation with found objects, which he subtly alters.”

If you are a member of the Tate then the exhibition will be free but if not do not fret as admission is only £10, concessions are £8.50.  The Tate Modern is open from 10am-6pm on weekdays and 10am-10pm at weekends.

More of a fine food person than a fine art person? Why don’t you treat yourself to a Byron burger, a “proper hamburger”. With restaurants located all over London, Byron are easily accessible and are fairly priced you will not be disappointed.

Byron, who pride themselves on their simple but delicious burgers source their beef from Scotland, mince it fresh everyday, cook it medium so it’s pink, juicy and succulent and place it in a soft, squishy bun (no sesame seed business) with minimum fuss and fanfare.

I highly recommend a Byron burger, with side fries and a root beer.  Delicious!

My Pick of the week

Performing on the night is a flurry of UK talent that includes: Random Impulse, Mikill Pane, Fuzzy Logic, Mike Hough and Nathan Blueberry. Plus DJ sets from pop duo Chasing Pluto and soulful threesome Marcus & The Garvey’s.

This week’s ‘Kicking It’ is about one, actually three, wonderful things in my life:

1. My new Air Max 1 ACGs that I have relentlessly been banging on about wanting for the past month.

2. My new J-Dilla T-Shirt, designed  by Oscar Wilson which you can get your mitts on at the J-Dilla Changed My Life event in London this Sunday.  All ticket sales going to Lupus UK and the J-Dilla Foundation so put your money where your mouth is people.

3. The gent that not only put up with my relentless banging on about these but surprised me with them and my Jordan 3′s out of the blue last week.

Finally! Got a bigger mirror to work with which makes this whole ‘Kicking It‘ thang a little less of a game of twister and hopefully results in something that’s a little less like those wannabe ‘super-fly’ (reads EMO) self-portrait snaps you (reads I) used to pimp out your myspace profile with (yeah I remember a time before Facebook). Hopefully.

This week I’m ‘Kicking It’ in my shiny, brand spanking new Air Jordan 3 Cements which are a reissue dropped last Saturday. If you’re a fan, get em while they’re hot, word is they be selling fast.

Rottweilers

Thursday 6th January. I am on a train. I am sat opposite a girl about the age of 20. She is speaking loudly, She has one earphone in her left ear (I think the song was ‘So special’ Movado). A BlackBerry nestled between her right ear and right shoulder.

She is annoying.

She is so loud that everyone on the packed train is looking her way.

I look her way several times for several reasons.

The main three being:

1. I can see where her hair finishes and where her weave begins. Also, her hair is black while the weave is brown. I call these types of girls with this type of Hair Dysfunctional: Rottweilers. (This leads me in to another trail of thought that maybe Nicki Minaj will be of some use this year, maybe she’ll inspire better hair care.. Just a thought)

2. Why is she so loud and angry at this time of morning? Admittedly, I get very annoyed most mornings trying to get into the city. My journey is always delayed because Boris and his Waste-man workforce are forever taking Londoners for dick-heads. Commuters in general have no common sense. But you never catch me on the phone shouting and cussing, I just tweet and rant about it.

3. The conversation she was having..

The latter is the main reason I kept looking at her.

The premise of her conversation with “Ella” (Didn’t know girls still had simple names like that) Was that “2011 was all about her and her grind” and “That no-one is gonna hold her down yeah?” oh and “All about change, get me yeah? I dunno why this woman keeps looking in my face for like I called name..” She then proceeded to talk about some boy called “Mark” and how she was gonna keep talking to him because he could get her discount in JD.. wow

‘Change.’.. This word at this time of year.. Jesus.. It made me think about what I think about change.

It’s cool to verbally visualise your change. But words are powerful so do this with a positive feel and energy to your words.

Imagine: She’s putting it out there into the world, that particular space that she wants to change. That she wants money. That she deserves it.. Yet everything thing about her is negative. Her body language. The aggression in her tone..

Stop me if I am wrong. Change has always meant to me moving forward for the better. Getting better. Allowing yourself to do better.. It’s a positive thing.. So why all the negativity’s while wishing for it?

Change needs to start with your personal person. Don’t leave the house with a scarecrow head. If you can’t maintain your weave, it means you can’t afford to have it. Cut away the things that you don’t really need. Give your self the space you need to receive better things.

No need to be aggressive all the time. There is a time to be aggressive and angry. All energies are needed. The good and the bad ones. But they have a time and a place.

Change comes to those that are in a capacity to receive except and recognise it.
